asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on his recent talks with President Johnson, with particular reference to Great Britain's defence commitment east of Suez.

The discussions which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence and I had in Washington in January were confidential. The defence commitments of this country, including those which we have East of Suez, will be dealt with in the Defence White Paper tomorrow, as will the measures which we are taking to meet them.
