§ 69. Sir W. Teelingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when talks are to be continued with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics concerning the Baltic Bonds; and what is the present position concerning other Iron Curtain countries' bonded debts, especially Hungary and Rumania.
§ Mr. PadleyWe are discussing with the Soviet Government a date for the resumption of talks on post-1939 Baltic Claims.
Exchanges with the Hungarians have been continuing. Progress has been slow. I regret that I cannot give any indication as to the outcome.
It was agreed during the recent visit of the Rumanian First Deputy Prime Minister that negotiations on financial questions outstanding between the United Kingdom and Rumania should open in March. Bonded debt will fall within the framework of these negotiations.
