Mr. St. John-Stevas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he intends to implement the report of the departmental committee on experiments on animals, Command Paper No. 2641.

My right hon. Friend is still awaiting the views of some of the bodies being consulted about the Committee's detailed recommendations. Legislation will be needed to implement most of the recommendations, and I cannot at present say when this will be possible.
