§ Mr. Scott-Hopkinsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will give the total number of calves born of both milk and beef type, the total number of calves reared to slaughter age, and the total number of calves going into the dairy herd each year for the past five years.
§ Mr. HoyI regret that there are no statistics relating to the number of calves born alive from both the dairy and beef herds. However, for England and Wales, statistics are available of the total number of cows and heifers calving down each year, which would be somewhat greater than the number of calves actually born alive, although these figures cannot be broken down separately as between those of milk and those of beef type.
