HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c324W
85. Mr. Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether, in view of the unemployment problems of Malta, which will be aggravated by the services' run-down there, he will enforce the retirement of locally engaged Defence Departments' clerks at the age of 60 years, the normal retiring age, thus creating employment opportunities for younger men.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

This is a normal provision of redundancy agreements. The arrangements for dealing with any redundancy of non-industrial staff, including clerks, in Malta are still being discussed however with the Staff Associations concerned.
