Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons were unemployed in each month in 1958; what percentage of the labour force the figures represent; what was the increase in the Retail Price Index and Wage Rates Index during the year; and if he will give similar information for the period 1st June, 1962, to 30th May, 1963.

Between mid-January and mid-December, 1958. the Index of Retail Prices rose by 1.9 per cent. During the period end-December, 1957, to end-December, 1958, there were increases of 3.7 per cent. and 3.8 per cent. respectively, in the Indices of weekly and hourly rates of wages, for all industries and services.

Between mid-June, 1962, and mid-May, 1963, the Index of Retail Prices rose by 1.0 per cent. During the period end-May, 1962, to end-May, 1963, the Indices of weekly and hourly rates of wages rose by 3.8 per cent. and 3.9 per cent. respectively, for all industries and services.
