§ 74. Sir J. Edenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what special grant has been authorised for payment through the British Council to support the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in their forthcoming tour of East Germany.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNone. The Orchestra approached the British Council in October, 1964, for support for a European tour in 1965 including East Germany. The British Council was obliged to turn down this request because, by the time it was received, all the Council's funds for music tours in 1965–66 were already allocated, and the Council was, therefore, unable to consider it.
