45. Mr. J. E. B. Hillasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is aware that his recent announcement of an increase in the minor works programme for school building, coupled with his decision to include in it works costing under£2,000, will actually reduce the amount available for this programme in Norfolk from£245,000 in 1964–65 to£190,000 in 1965–66; and what steps he proposes to enable the Norfolk County Council to speed rather than slow up small but urgently-needed improvements.
§ Mr. PrenticeThe Authority's allocacation for minor works has been increased from £130,000 for the current year to£190,000 for 1965–66. This goes a substantial way to offset the inclusion of jobs under£2,000.
