HC Deb 02 March 1965 vol 707 cc214-5W
81. Mr. Marlowe

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that the residents of the Borough of Hove pay more per head in rates than those in any other local government area; whether he is aware that the borough population is one-fifth of the administrative county but bears one-third of the county expenditure; and what action he proposes to take in answer to the request from the borough that in those circumstances additional grant should be made.

Mr. MacColl

The Answer to the first part of the Question is that while the amount is high in Hove there are other areas in which the amount is even higher; to the second, "Yes"; to the third, that my right hon. Friend has had no request though he understand that the council is shortly to consider making one.
