§ Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will publish in HANSARD a table showing the population of Mauritius in 1905, 1925, 1945 and 1965; how many people have left Mauritius as permanent migrants in each of the last 10 years; to which countries they have gone; and if he will seek to assist the Government of Mauritius to cope with its problem of over-population by consulting other Commonwealth arid European nations on the possibility of accepting a larger number of Mauritian immigrants, as well as taking steps to increase the number allowed to enter the United Kingdom.

I am looking into the possibilities of assisting the Government of Mauritius with its over-population problem, and will write to my hon. Friend as soon as I can. As regards entry into the United Kingdom it is not possible to relax the general policy of control of the numbers of immigrants by treating Mauritius as a special case.
