§ Commander Courtneyasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give an assessment of the cost effectiveness of the recruiting advertisement for the Royal Air Force which recently occupied a whole page of one issue of the Daily Telegraph at an estimated cost to the Exchequer of £4,000, in view of the comparatively favourable estimate of the Royal Air Force recruiting situation given in the 1965 Defence White Paper.
Mr. MilianRoyal Air Force aircrew advertising is planned as a campaign directed to attract a regular flow of recruits and must be looked at as a whole. It would be misleading to try to evaluate the recruiting effect of a particular advertisement in isolation.
§ Commander Courtneyasked the Secretary of State for Defence, how much has been spent in recruiting advertisements over the past year in respect of Royal Air Force and Royal Navy air crew, respectively; to what extent the difference is indicative of the relative urgency of the two requirements; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Millan£245,000 and £52,000. The difference does not indicate relative urgency. It reflects different requirements.
