63. Mr. Slaterasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the prospects for a Government Department being transferred from London to the North-East, in view of the Government decision to transfer the Post Office Savings Bank to Glasgow.
§ Mr. GreenUnder the current dispersal programme there are two or three units, admittedly smaller than the Savings Bank, which will be moved right 185W away from South-East England to areas of higher than average unemployment. The Government will pay close regard to the claims of the North East in choosing locations for these units.
