§ 52. Mr. Randallasked the Minister of Education if he will name the school included in the Gateshead local authority's proposals for the major educational building programme, 1963–64, for which the first instalment was permitted under the minor works programme; what was the original date of opening of this school; whether at the time of construction it was regarded as a temporary, school; and when he proposes to sanction the second instalment.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe school is the Chester Place County School which 211W opened in 1902. The Department's records do not enable me to answer the second part of the Question, but I agree that there is a good case for replacing the existing school buildings which consist of temporary hutments. I am considering the authority's proposal to do so as part of their submission for the 1965–66 major building programme, on which I hope to make an announcement in the course of the next few weeks.
