HC Deb 16 June 1964 vol 696 cc163-4W
Sir Richard Glyn

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs how many individuals in north Dorset have claimed relief under the Rating (Interim Relief) Act, 1964; how many claims have been accepted; and how much money has been paid out to these individuals by the rating authorities and by his department.

Sir K. Joseph

I have no information about the number of applications which have been made for relief or how such applications have been dealt with. This is a matter which has been entrusted by Parliament to the discretion of local authorities. I make no payments direct to ratepayers. But I shall be asking local authorities later in the summer how much relief they have granted in order that I may make to them the first payments of Exchequer grant under Section 5 of the Act.
