asked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development if he is aware that exports of fish and fish preparations to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for the first quarter of 1964 amounted to £16,952, whereas imports were £1,191,825; and what new steps he is taking to assist British fish exports to this market.

Yes. My right hon. Friend will continue to seek outlets for our exports of fish and fish preparations to the Soviet Union in our quota negotiations with the Soviet authorities. Discussions are now proceeding on quotas for the eighteen months ending 31st December, 1965.
