§ Mr. Abseasked the Minister of Health how many were on the lists waiting to receive hospital treatment within the Newport and East Monmouthshire area in 1961, 1962, and 1963; how many are waiting at present; how many on these waiting lists were awaiting gynaecological or obstetric attention in 1961, 1962, and 1963; how many are awaiting such treatment at present; and by what date these waiting lists will be substantially reduced.
§ Mr. Braine5,210, 5,517 and 5,251 were awaiting in-patient treatment on 31st December 1961, 1962 and 1963; the figures at the 31st December, 1963 are the latest available; for gynaecology the figures were 1,426, 1,622 and 1,524 respectively; there is no waiting list for obstetrics; the waiting lists should be substantially reduced when the new obstetric and gynaecology unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport is completed, probably in 1965.
