§ 38. Dame Irene Wardasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the fact that persons paying Income Tax obtain their retirement pensions at less cost than persons relieved of paying tax, if he will examine the position with a view to equalising the cost of retirement pensions.
§ Mr. GreenI have noted my hon. Friend's point; but, as she is aware, it it a well-established principle that relief from tax is allowed for contributions paid to secure a pension under a pensions scheme and that the pension is taxable when it is received.
