HC Deb 21 April 1964 vol 693 cc166-8W
Mr. Ainsley

asked the Minister of Transport what are the estimated completion dates of the Darlington by-pass, the Durham motorway, the Tyne Tunnel, the Tyne Tunnel approach roads, the South Tees Parkway, the replacement of the A.19 between Stockton and Middlesbrough, and the improvement of the A.19/A.168 roads between Tees-side and Dishforth.

Mr. Marples

Darlington By-Pass: Spring 1965.

Durham MotorwayIt is too early to be precise. Advance bridge works begin this year; main road works on the first section will start next year; other lengths will follow with a view to completion in three to four years.

Tyne Tunnel and Tyne Tunnel Approach roadsThe end of 1966 or early 1967.

The detailed programming of the other schemes referred to, which are part of the Government's special additional road programme for the North-East, is being worked out and precise completion dates cannot be given. The aim is to start all these schemes within the next five years.
