Mr. N. Pannell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convictions there have been for living on immoral earnings in the Metropolitan Police district from the 1st July, 1962 to 30th June, 1963; what were the countries of origin of those convicted; and how these figures compare with the corresponding period to 30th June, 1962.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many immigrants from the Commonwealth and the Republic of Ireland, respectively, were convicted of living on immoral earnings in the Metropolitan Police district during the 12 months ended 30th June, 1963; and how many were immune from deportation through having been resident in the United Kingdom for five years or more.

There were 79 convictions of persons from the Commonwealth and 22 of persons from the Republic of Ireland. Seventy-one of the 101 convictions were of persons ineligible for deportation.
