HC Deb 19 July 1963 vol 681 cc116-7W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will name the local authorities and other organisations which have made representations to him in favour of triennial elections being held for the new London boroughs, and those which urged that these elections should be annual.

Sir K. Joseph

The bodies who have specifically indicated their agreement with or acceptance of the proposal to hold triennial elections are the Association of Municipal Corporations, the Metropolitan Boroughs Standing Joint Committee, and the Councils of the Royal Borough of Kensington, the Metropolitan Boroughs of Hampstead and Wandsworth, and the Borough of Richmond. I cannot trace that any local authority has made representations in favour of annual elections, but the Wanstead and Woodford Borough Council has expressed itself in favour of biennial elections.

The North Paddington Conservative Association has made representations in favour of triennial elections; and the Edmonton Conservative Association in favour of annual elections.
