HL Deb 18 July 1963 vol 252 cc391-2WA
LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

If they will state the number of airfields in this country which are occupied by the U.S.A.F. and which will become vacant and the dates, and also the number and location of airfields under the control of the Air Ministry which are not now being used or the use of which it is intended shall cease and when.

LORD CARRINGTON

The Government is not aware of any plans by the United States Air Force to vacate any of the airfields which it occupies at present. The Air Ministry has 64 airfields which are no longer in use or whose use will cease in the foreseeable future. The majority of them were built during the last War in East Anglia or Yorkshire and are in the process of disposal.
