HL Deb 18 July 1963 vol 252 c392WA
THE EARL OF GOSFORD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

If they will treat as a matter of urgency the payment to highway authorities of supplementary grants in respect of additional expenditure on repairs to frost damage, incurred in the current financial year, as a result of the exceptionally severe weather last winter: as delay is disrupting the rhythm of the normal maintenance programme.

LORD CHESHAM

Many local highway authorities have applied to us for extra grants for the maintenance and minor improvement of classified roads in order that they can do some extra work to repair the extensive damage of last winter. These applications are being considered and we hope to let them know shortly where they stand. I should explain that the Government have already agreed to pay to local highway authorities additional grant of some £3½, million on expenditure incurred in the final quarter of the last financial year because of the abnormal weather.

House adjourned at thirteen minutes before eight o'clock.
