HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 cc57-8W
Mr. Gough

asked the Minister of Transport what spare capacity there is in car parks in the area of central London where he proposes to increase parking meter charges.

Mr. Marples

There are at present more than 2,000 spaces available every day in off-street car parks in or very near the area where I propose that meter charges should be increased. If they were occupied by motorists who now park on the streets for long periods and so deprive short-term parkers of space, some 7,000 more people would be able to use the meters each day.
