§ Mr. Goughasked the Minister of Transport what spare capacity there is in car parks in the area of central London where he proposes to increase parking meter charges.
§ Mr. MarplesThere are at present more than 2,000 spaces available every day in off-street car parks in or very near the area where I propose that meter charges should be increased. If they were occupied by motorists who now park on the streets for long periods and so deprive short-term parkers of space, some 7,000 more people would be able to use the meters each day.
