asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps are being taken to provide means for the storing of grain in Bechuanaland, in order to make best use of the surpluses built up during the harvest season during the off season.

The grain-storage position has improved considerably since the establishment by private enterprise of a commercial maize mill at Lobatsi in 1961, but storage problems still exist, mainly for small producers in the more remote areas. The secondment of a specialist from the Tropical Stored Products Centre of the Department of Technical Co-operation is being sought to advise on storage problems generally.
