HC Deb 04 December 1963 vol 685 c169W
56. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Minister of Transport why the line of the proposed Victoria Tube has been diverted round the grounds of Buckingham Palace; and what is the approximate extra cost involved.

Mr. Galbraith

The line of the proposed Victoria Tube has not been diverted, but follows the alignment approved by Parliament in the British Transport Commission Act, 1955. This alignment was selected as the most suitable on technical grounds; the second part of the Question, therefore, does not arise.

57. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the strong objection felt by the residents in Islington to the proposal to erect a shaft through the gardens of Gibson Square in connection with the proposed Victoria Line, he will alter the line to avoid this.

Mr. Galbraith

The line of the proposed Victoria Line was fixed by Parliament in the British Transport Commission Act, 1955, and my right hon. Friend has no power to alter it.
