HC Deb 04 December 1963 vol 685 cc186-7W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport what response he has had from local authorities to the circular issued earlier this year recommending a higher standard in the erection of street name plates and in the numbering of houses, in view of its endorsement by the Worboys Committee.

Mr. Marples

Local authorities were asked in the circular to consider whether the street name plates and the house and other numbers in their areas were of sufficiently high standard and, if not, to take such action as was necessary to improve the standard. Though they were not invited to report back to me some comments have been received and all have been favourable. Nevertheless there is still plenty of room for improvement, particularly in house numbering.
