asked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement on the latest statistics regarding the effect of car seat belts in road accidents.

The latest analysis of a sample of road accidents which has been madeby the Road Research Laboratory suggests that when the driver and front seat passenger in a car which becomes involved in an accident are wearing safety belts their risk of serious injury is reduced by 79 per cent, and of slight injury by 38 per cent.
