HC Deb 27 November 1962 vol 668 c20W
29. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the high and persistent level of unemployment in Jarrow and Hebburn; and what steps he is taking to provide employment for those men, women, boys and girls who are now without work.

Mr. D. Price

My right hon. Friend is aware of the high level of unemployment in Jarrow and Hebburn and is much concerned about it. Both places are part of the South-East Tyne development district, where the facilities of the Local Employment Act are available to firms providing new employment. The Board will continue to do everything possible to encourage more industrial development.
