asked the Minister of Education what action he has taken regarding the establishment of a European youth centre at Strasbourg.

The proposal to establish a European Youth Centre at Strasbourg was discussed by the Conference of Senior Officials on Youth Questions of Members States of the Council of Europe early in 1961 and subsequently by its Co-ordinating Committee. On each occasion my Department was represented. The newly established Council for Cultural Co-operation of the Council of Europe referred the financial implications to the Committee of Ministers which has postponed consideration until its next meeting. Further consideration of the technical aspects was due to take place at a meeting in Strasbourg last week at which a member of my Department was present.
