asked the Minister of Labour what were the average weekly earnings of male manual workers in England and Wales in 1938, 1949, and 1960, respectively.

Mr. Green

For men aged 21 and over, 69s. 0d., 142s. 8d., and 290s. 8d. in October, 1938, 49, and 60 respectively. For those under 21 years, the amounts were 26s. 1d., 60s. 1d., and 130s. 0d. These figures relate to average weekly earnings in the United Kingdom; I regret that separate figures for England and Wales are not available.
