HC Deb 21 February 1962 vol 654 cc49-50W
55. Mr. Gourlay

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware of the widespread redundancy among members of the National Union of Vehicle Builders, previously employed in the de Havilland factories in Christchurch and Portsmouth; and if he proposes to issue further orders for Sea Vixens.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

I am aware of the Hawker Siddeley Group's decision affecting the de Havilland factories at Christchurch and Portsmouth. But any further order for Sea Vixen aircraft will be determined by the operational needs of the Royal Navy. I am informed, however, that, if an order were placed shortly, it would not materially affect the position at these factories.
