§ 59. Mr. Sorensenasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will request recognised consumers' organisations to inform him of serious instances where firms or manufacturers have refused or failed to take action concerning goods brought to their notice by those consumers' organisations as showing substantial defects or misleading information; if he will appoint a representative of his Department to deal with this matter; and if he will take steps to ensure that those firms or manufacturers remedy the complaint.
§ Mr. ErrollI have no doubt that consumer organisations bring to my notice anything they think I ought to know. My Department is already organised to receive from any source complaints on matters affecting the interests of consumers, and in suitable cases it prosecutes persons believed to have committed offences against the Merchandise Marks Acts, 1887–1953.
