HC Deb 20 December 1962 vol 669 c227W
Mr. Box

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what steps he and the Minister of Transport are taking to provide co-ordinated advice to local authorities on the problems of urban traffic and town planning.

Sir K. Joseph

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and I are extending my Department's Urban Planning Group to include officials of his Department. The joint group will continue to give local authorities general guidance on urban planning matters by means of planning bulletins. The new arrangements will strengthen the group in dealing with the techniques and realities of traffic engineering and highway planning, and provide a natural extension of the close contact already being maintained between the two Departments at all levels.

They are in addition to the work being carried out by the long-term study group under the direction of Mr. C. D. Buchanan and the general guidance of Sir Geoffrey Crowther, which was set up by my right hon. Friend in consultation with the then Minister of Housing and Local Government.
