HC Deb 18 December 1962 vol 669 cc174-5W
Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now lift the ban on drift-netting for salmon, before the Hunter Committee has reported.

Mr. Noble

No. The ban was imposed, pending the investigation by the Hunter Committee, in case the rapid and widespread development of driftnet fishing should endanger the stocks of salmon. The matter will be reviewed when the Committee's report is received.
