§ Mr. McKayasked the Minister of Education what are the salaries paid for men and women teachers after they have been two years at a teachers training college: what extra amount is paid for a university degree; and what is the average salary of a schoolmaster at a primary school with 200 or 300 scholars.
§ Sir E. BoyleFull-time non-graduate qualified teachers with two years of training—whether men or women—are paid on a basic scale £570 to £1,170. This minimum and maximum are increased by £30 for each year of education or training beyond two, by £100 for the possession of a degree and by a further £100 if the degree is of good Honours standard. Additional allowances are also payable to non-graduate and graduate teachers. Including these, the average salary of all full-time qualified men teachers in primary schools on 31st March, 1962, was £1,236. It is not possible to quote an average for teachers in any particular size of school.
