§ 97. Mr. Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to which institution he has now transferred a prisoner of Polish nationality, about whom he has received details; why he has been kept in an ordinary prison for so long; what reply he has sent to the report, sent to him by a Worcester hospital psychiatrist, criticising treatment of this prisoner since his conviction and urgently recommending immediate psychiatric treatment; and if he will send this prisoner immediately to Grendon Underwood or some similar centre.
§ Mr. Fletcher-CookeThis prisoner, who had been found insane on arraignment, was transferred to Broadmoor Hospital on 28th November; pending his removal, he was kept in the prison hospital. He would not have been suitable for Grendon prison or any other psychiatric centre within the prison service. I am writing to the hon. Member about the report to which he refers.
