33. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration is being given by the Metropolitan Police to installing closed circuit television cameras at selected busy road junctions in London and easing traffic flow through a central control acting on television pictures of such junctions.

Mr. Woodhouse

I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that he is considering the possibility of introducing pilot schemes of traffic control using television and other electronic devices.

46. Mr. Hocking

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to how many police forces in England and Wales a grant is made for the use of closed-circuit television for the purpose of traffic control in conjunction with traffic signals.

Mr. Woodhouse

I am only aware of one.

Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will have a study made by the Metropolitan Police of foreign systems of phased traffic signal control and closed circuit television traffic control.

Mr. Woodhouse

The Metropolitan Police are aware of the systems of traffic control of this kind in use in several foreign and Commonwealth countries.
