HC Deb 02 August 1962 vol 664 cc147-8W
Mr. F. Noel-Baker

asked the Postmaster-General what steps he will take to ensure that sufficient public call box kiosks are provided within the borough of Swindon, in view of the rapid increase of population in that town.

Miss Pike

Six additional public call boxes have been installed in Swindon during the past 12 months, making a total of 72. Plans are in hand to provide five more as new estates develop.

Mr. F. Noel-Baker

asked the Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones on exchanges serving the borough of Swindon are now outstanding; and what is the average time between application and installation.

Miss Pike

At the 30th June there were 19 applications outstanding and a further 97 under inquiry or in course of being met. When plant and equipment are available, service is usually given in about 4 weeks.
