54. Mr. N. Pannell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convictions for living on immoral earnings there have been in the Metropolitan Police district since 1st June, 1962; what were the countries of origin of the offenders; and how many recommendations for deportation were made and confirmed, respectively, in this respect.

Between 1st June and 28th July twenty-eight persons were convicted in the Metropolitan Police District of living on immoral earnings. None was liable for deportation. The following table shows the countries of origin:

NOTE.—The citizens of Commonwealth countries and of the Irish Republic concerned were not liable for deportation either because the offence occurred before 1st June, 1962, or because of residential qualifications. The offender who originally came from a foreign country is a British subject by naturalisation.
