HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 c108W
52 Mr. Abse

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in view of the increase of evening racing, what steps he intends to take to vary the compulsory closing hours of licensed betting offices in order to prevent illegal betting taking place.

Mr. Renten

My right hon. Friend has received representations from organisations representing bookmakers that licensed betting offices should be allowed to remain open after 6.30 p.m., the closing hour at present fixed by regulation, on days when evening horse races take place. My right hon. Friend is considering these representations.
