§ 56. Miss Baconasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will restrict the granting of licences for firearms, and prohibit their possession by certain categories of people.
§ Mr. RentonThe Firearms Act, 1937, already prohibits the granting of firearm certificates to certain categories of persons, and in other cases, the chief officer of police has to satisfy himself, before granting a certificate, that the applicant has a good reason for possessing a firearm and can be permitted to possess it without danger to public safety or to the peace. My right hon. Friend has no reason to think that further restrictions or prohibitions are required at the present time.
