§ Sir B. Jannerasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many widows are in receipt of the 10s. widow's pension; and how many of them resort to National Assistance for additional help.
§ Mr. Boyd-Carpenter:At the end of 1959 there were some 101,000 widows under the age of 60 in receipt of the 10s. widow's pension under the old Contributory Pensions Acts. Some of these were also drawing benefits under the National Insurance Acts. It is estimated that 8,000 10s. widows not entitled to National Insurance benefits were in receipt of National Assistance, and that National Assistance was also being paid to 3,500 such widows who were in receipt of National Insurance sickness or unemployment benefit.
