HC Deb 13 April 1961 vol 638 cc34-5W
Mr. C. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much was invested in National Savings in 1939, 1945, 1951 and 1961, respectively; and how many savers there were in each of these years.

Mr. Barber

I regret that information on the number of savers in each year is not available. The net changes in the total National Savings remaining invested in the respective financial years were as follows:

£ million
1938–39 1944–45 1950–51 1960–61
+57 +716 +4 +340
