§ Mr. Reynoldsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many single persons aged 65 years and over, whose total income does not exceed £275, and married couples, where either the husband or wife is aged 65 years or over, whose total income does not exceed £440, were exempted from income tax in the year ended 31st March, 1959, or at the most recent convenient date.
§ Sir E. BoyleIn 1959–60 the cases relieved from tax by age exemption numbered about ¾ million, of which about half were cases of married couples and half single persons.
