HC Deb 09 May 1960 vol 623 c24W
Mr. Houghton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that numerous cases of tax arrears arise because information of the granting of a retirement pension is not received by the inspector of taxes until the taxpayer makes his return for the following tax year; and whether he will make arrangements with the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance so that the Inland Revenue are notified of the granting of retirement pensions, and similar long-term benefits, within three months of commencement.

Sir E. Boyle

Arrangements were put into force some time ago which, when they have taken full effect, should contribute largely to the solution of this problem. There are difficulties about the particular suggestion put forward by the hon. Member, but the whole question is being kept under review.
