HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 cc174-5W
Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if it has yet been discovered how foot-and-mouth disease came to Middleton of Rora, Longside, North Collielaw, Peterhead, Stoneygate, Hatton, and Chapel-hall, Elton; and whether he will take further action to remedy the defects of his present Regulations.

Mr. Vane

Investigations so far have shown no direct link betwen these outbreaks and others in the present series.

If my hon. Friend will let me know what defects in the present Regulations he has in mind, I will write to him.

Mr. Forbes Hendry

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether, in view of the repeated serious outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Aberdeenshire, he will instruct his veterinary officers forthwith to impose an immediate standstill for at least three weeks in every instance where a case is suspected by a qualified veterinary surgeon, even if it cannot be diagnosed with certainty.

Mr. Vane

No. Immediate standstill is imposed where our veterinary officers suspect foot-and-mouth disease, even if it cannot be diagnosed with certainty. I will write fully my hon. Friend.
