HC Deb 14 December 1960 vol 632 cc44-5W
54. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Transport what plans he has for segregating different types of traffic, especially the fast and the very slow, and so avoiding accidents.

Mr. Marples

Some segregation is already being achieved by the exclusion of pedestrians and certain vehicles from motorways and by the provision of cycle tracks on all-purpose roads where there is sufficient demand to justify them. I am at present considering the views of representative organisations about whether mopeds should be allowed to use cycle tracks. I am also examining the possibility of separating pedestrians more effectively from wheeled traffic in towns. A start has been made by the provision of subways for pedestrians under a number of main traffic routes.
