HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c142W
Dame Irene Ward

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of his decision to accept responsibility for a deficit of £90 million from the British Transport Commission, he will now take steps to apply the Pensions Increases Act of 1959 to railway superannuitants.

Sir E. Boyle

No. The change in the method of Exchequer financing of the British Transport Commission's deficit, which my right hon. Friend announced in his Budget Statement, does not entail any change in the position that superannuation arrangements are matters within the responsibility of the Commission.
