82. Mrs. Butlerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what estimate he has made of the number of houses which need to be built in the next 10 years to replace slum dwellings.
§ Mr. H. BrookeLocal authorities in England and Wales are now replacing about 60,000 slum dwellings per year. If this rate continues, upwards of 600,000 new houses and flats will be required for the purpose over the next ten years. But I hope that a large number of authorities will have completed the clearance of all slum dwellings within their area in well under ten years.
