42 and 43. Mrs. Butlerasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (1) what arrangements are in operation for monitoring wings of high-flying aircraft for radioactivity; and what steps are being taken to provide the necessary safety precautions for aircraft cleaners;
(2) what arrangements are in operation for monitoring air-filters in aeroplanes for radioactivity; and what steps are being taken to protect technical staff who attend to the filters.
§ Mr. HayNo regular monitoring of aircraft is carried out because the measurements taken in the past have suggested that this is not required. It has therefore not been deemed necessary to provide special safety precautions against contamination to protect the maintenance staff.
